Astrology shows up in the body. Your sun, moon, rising sign, and any planet sitting on your ascendant leave a mark on your face, your bone structure, and the way you move through a room. This is old, documented astrology that practitioners have used for centuries to read temperament and constitution. Here’s how to spot each sign and planet.
You’ve seen the look. The Capricorn whose cheekbones could cut glass. The Scorpio with a stare so intense you start confessing things you didn’t even do. Astrology shows up in your face, your posture, your bone structure, and the way you move through a room. Every planet leaves a physical imprint, and every sign expresses that imprint through the body.
This is old school, documented astrology of physical appearance. Astrologers have used bone structure, facial features, and body traits for centuries to understand temperament, health, and constitution. Think of this post as a visual field guide: part anthropology, part pattern spotting, part “ooh, that makes sense now.”
Credit where it’s due: Judith Hill’s book The Astrological Body Types is the backbone of this whole thing. She’s brilliant, hilarious, and illustrated the book herself. I’m also pulling from Guido Bonatti, a 13th-century Italian astrologer whose descriptions are so shady he would have made a great Real Housewife. And shout-out to Benjamin Dykes, who translated Bonatti into English.
A few ground rules before we start. These markers work across races and gene pools; the astrology shows up relative to your ancestry and who you’re around. Thick hair might be the thickest in your family. Tall could mean tall for your people. A lot of traditional astrology was written from a European perspective, so when you hear “beautiful” or “refined,” that’s often Eurocentric standards talking, but the archetypes really are universal. Bodies change (surgery, fillers, weight shifts), but you’ll still look like your chart whether you were born with it or you bought it. And we’re all blended. Your chart has planets in different signs making different aspects, so you’re expressing more than one archetype at a time.
The full video goes deep on every single sign and planet with photographic evidence and timestamps. Here’s the field guide version.
The signs
Aries is built for speed. Lean, striking, almost feline, with sharp cheekbones, a small upturned nose, and eyes that look halfway between a thought, an opinion, and knocking somebody out. Aries rules the head, so something is always happening in the forehead, eyes, and brow zone. Dramatic hairlines, widow’s peaks, hair pulled back and out the way. Beyoncé finally confirmed she’s an Aries rising, but the high ponytail already told us. Even if they haven’t worked out since the Obama administration, the physique still says you can catch these hands.
Taurus is Venus with weight behind it. A sculpted face, strong or square jaw, full lips, round mellow eyes (yes, like the pretty cartoon version of Elsie the cow), and that iconic neck. Sturdy, thick, built to house a divine voice, and it usually does. Taurus rules the throat, so even a Taurus whisper is gold. Bonatti called Taurus “Mr. Steal Your Girl” in medieval terms, warning you not to trust your wife with him in secret. The disrespect. The accuracy.
Gemini moves even when the body isn’t moving. Quick, bright, animated faces, and something about them always reads long: arms, legs, fingers, neck. Gemini rules the arms, and these people talk with their hands like it’s their native language. High or domed foreheads (like someone with too many tabs open), fine flyaway hair, and a built-in youthfulness that lasts well into adulthood.
Cancer comes in two types so different people misread one as a whole other sign. The full moon type is the textbook lunar look: round face, soft features, plush lips, watery eyes, nurturing aura. The new moon type is longer and narrower, big sad eyes, a slightly mournful romantic expression, like they’re the soundtrack to a Russian winter. Both share those glistening tide-pool eyes and the sense that they’ll remember your favorite food forever.
Leo looks like what happens when the sun decides to make a person. Strong angles, high cheekbones that catch light like they’re in the spotlight, cat-like upward-tilting eyes, and that subtle satisfied Elvis-style lip curl that whispers “I know exactly who I am.” The hair is a personality trait: thick, dramatic, voluminous, its own supporting cast member. And Leo men who go bald wear it well; it’s like the sun said “move, I’ll take it from here.”
Virgo is precision made visible. Faces that look edited: fine narrow features, sculpted lips with a little point at the corners, a long delicate nose like someone put an invisible clothespin on it. Bright, attentive eyes that spotted the typo before you finished the slide. The body is functional muscle, very 1980s gymnast. I’d bet money edge control was invented by a Virgo.
Libra is beauty softened with air. Oval or heart-shaped faces, Cupid’s bow mouths, petite refined noses, dimples. They move like they’re gliding. And listen, I say this with love: Libras usually don’t have big booties. Venus invests her resources up top for them. Soft shoulders, beautiful décolletage, long graceful neck. Very Botticelli, golden hour, sea foam, all that.
Scorpio looks locked in before a word leaves their mouth. Deep-set, piercing, unwavering eyes under prominent brow bones. The chiseled type gives film noir femme fatale (Cruella, Maleficent, your garden-variety cartoon villain). The thickset type is the brick house: broad nose, heavy lips, a poker face forged in the underworld. The voice runs low, sultry, smoky, that “I’ve been through some things” register.
Sagittarius got booty meat. I said what I said, and so did Bonatti, who wrote that Sagittarians are “often more beautiful from the back than from the front.” That’s a 13th-century man saying “I hate to see you leave, but I love to watch you walk away.” Long legs, high hips, big friendly teeth (sometimes with gaps; Jupiter needs space everywhere), hair that flows like a mane, and a walk that says they’re already halfway to the airport.
Capricorn is structure, seriousness, and durability made visible. The Saturnian type is carved from stone: strong jaw, prominent nose, high cheekbones, deep-set eyes. The earthy type is the tank who could carry the groceries, the children, and the whole community on their back. And here’s a weird Capricorn thing: they age backwards. Old-looking when young, younger-looking when old. Saturn works mysteriously.
Aquarius looks like someone the future sent back as a prototype. Tall (or freakishly something), long shins, huge high foreheads, rebellious flyaway hair, wide-set eyes, and interesting facial geometry that’s memorable instead of symmetrical. There’s usually some small mismatch in the body, some idiosyncrasy that says “I didn’t come here to blend in.”
Pisces looks like someone dipped a human in moonlight and watercolor. Soft edges, huge emotional eyes, features that melt instead of cut. The fish type is round and sleepy like a seal pup who needs a nap. The fairy type is dainty and elvish. The sad poet type (almost exclusively men) has haunting eyes carrying ancestral grief and a little seduction. Karl Marx, a Pisces man himself, once claimed no prophet can succeed without a beard. The feet always stand out somehow. Don’t ask me why; ask Neptune.
The planets
Think of the planets like a company that makes products. Apple makes the iPhone and the MacBook: different products, same design language, same DNA. Jupiter makes Sagittarius and Pisces. Venus makes Taurus and Libra. Mars makes Aries and Scorpio. So when a planet sits strong in your chart (conjunct your sun, moon, or ascendant, or ruling your rising sign), you’ll see its trademark on you, even if you have zero planets in the signs it rules.
The sun glows. Balanced proportions, broad shoulders, a bright forehead, hair that frames the face like a mane, and skin that reflects light like they’re always standing near a window.
The moon is soft, round, and a little otherworldly. Hidden bones, tender cheeks, deep-set shimmering eyes, a pear-shaped silhouette. Lunar people drift more than they walk, like they’re made of tides instead of muscles.
Mercury is quick. Petite, wiry, fine-boned, with darting eyes and hands that have speaking roles. They’ll text you 17 times in a row and then vanish for 3 months. It’s not personal; they found a new hyperfixation.
Venus is the baby fat in a world full of sharp edges (that one’s from astrologer Mychal Bryan). Plush lips, big wide-set eyes with heavy romantic lids, glowy skin that heals fast, hair that’s lush no matter the texture, and a voice like a hug you can hear. Even their sigh sounds cute.
Mars shows up like it’s been through something or it’s ready to put you through something. Angular bone structure, penetrating eyes, heavy brows, skin that carries the story: redness, old acne scars, that sun-kissed-and-wind-slapped quality. Sharp little teeth, gummy smiles, tattoos (Mars rules cutting and puncturing, so it tracks). Bill Clinton and Donald Trump both have Mars on the ascendant, and both have rosacea.
Jupiter looks like they’ve got Christmas inside of them. Solid, warm, thick through the torso, a large beautifully rounded philosopher’s dome of a head, cheeks for days, and the famous clown-tip nose. If Mars has a blade for a nose, Jupiter has a soft landing pad. These are the people wearing T-shirts in 42-degree weather talking about “it’s not that cold.”
Saturn walks into a room and the temperature drops 5 degrees. Dry, bony, narrow, all visible joints and sharp angles. Long face, high forehead, thin lips, deep-set solemn eyes, big ears. Saturn skin ages fast but beautifully; it carries wrinkles like wisdom. Bonatti’s description ends with “a killer, and especially secretly,” so, you know, watch out for these Saturn people.
Uranus walks around like they have Wi-Fi in their bloodstream. Freakishly tall or freakishly small, egg-shaped brainy skulls, cool detached eyes that seem to observe the moment from two lifetimes ahead, and hair that doesn’t lay down, it hovers. People either love them or can’t figure them out. There’s no mid response.
Neptune is soft, blurred, dreamy, hard to pin down. Large heavy-lidded watery eyes, dissolving bone structure, mermaid-slash-shipwreck-survivor hair. And the signature move: shape-shifting. Strong Neptune people change their appearance constantly. Wigs, surgery, cosplay, eras. Sometimes you wonder if they were a figment of your imagination.
Pluto has a face that doesn’t relax. Dark, deep-set, still eyes that hit you like a lie detector. Heavy shadowed brows, a prominent nose, dense anchored build, unreadable expression. When somebody walks in and the whole room shifts, that’s Pluto.
How to find yours
Your appearance is a blend, so look at these 5 factors in your birth chart: your sun, moon, and rising sign; the ruler of your rising sign (its planet, its sign, and anything aspecting it); any planet conjunct your ascendant within about 10 degrees; planets conjunct your sun, moon, or rising ruler; and any stelliums, because 3 or more planets in one sign will be loud in your face.
The full video has every sign and planet with photographic evidence, timestamps to jump around, and Bonatti quotes I couldn’t fit here. Save it. You’ll come back to it for years.
Want to go deeper on your own chart? Book a consultation and let’s look at what your chart says about how you show up, and how to move through the world more strategically.
Often, but not from the sun sign alone. Physical appearance comes mostly from your rising sign, its ruler, and any planet close to your ascendant, plus your sun and moon. A stellium (three or more planets in one sign) shows up loud too.
Five things: your sun, moon, and rising sign, the ruler of your rising sign, and any planet within about 10 degrees of your ascendant. You’re a blend of all of them, not a single sign.
Yes, along with several other inputs, like the ruler of your rising sign, your sun, moon, planets close to your ascendant, sun, and moon.
Yes. The archetypes show up relative to your own ancestry and the people around you. Thick hair means the thickest in your family; tall means tall for your people. People of all races can have reddish (Mars-like) undertones to their skin.
