Let me start the way I started the video: Homegirl Astrology does not condone violence. We do, however, condone self-defense. Which brings us to the Montgomery riverfront brawl.
In the summer of 2023, a Black dock worker in Montgomery, Alabama was attacked by a group of white men who didn’t want to move their pontoon boat. You’ve seen the footage. You’ve seen Aquaman and the rest of the Black Avengers pull up in support. You’ve probably seen the commemorative folding chair jewelry.
But while everybody was talking about the chairs, I was looking at the chart. Because the brawl wasn’t an isolated story. That whole stretch of months was one weird water incident after another, and there was an astrological reason.
A summer of strange water stories
Line them up. The OceanGate submersible imploded on its way down to the Titanic. Four Nigerian stowaways survived two weeks crossing the Atlantic on a ship’s rudder and landed in Brazil. A boat carrying hundreds of Senegalese migrants capsized, with the Moroccan Navy pulling survivors out of the water. A boat explosion here, a person thrown from a boat in Austin there, a baby thrown from a boat somewhere else. Yes, it was summer in the northern hemisphere and more people were out on the water. It was still a lot.
When I pulled the chart for the Montgomery brawl, one thing connected it to the rest of the pile: a Neptune-Chiron semi-octile, a tight 22.5 degree angle between the two. Normally I don’t give that minor angle much attention. But Neptune and Chiron both move slowly, so when slow bodies form even a small angle, it holds long enough to color months of news. This one ran from around June to roughly August or September.
Why this combination gets messy
Neptune, let’s just talk about it, is a foolish planet. It does beautiful things with spirituality, film, glamor. And it’s also the planet of deception and delusion, with an obvious connection to water (the god Neptune, hello).
Chiron is the wounded healer. It touches healers, treatment, things that are a little off, and things hidden away, because Chiron himself was isolated in his cave in the myth.
Put them together and you get a specific flavor of shenanigans: trouble with healing and treatment, deception moving through water and through communication, and personal details getting lost or misrepresented.
How it showed up, point by point
Blocked access to treatment. A tornado ripped through Rocky Mount, North Carolina (where I have family), and destroyed a Pfizer plant that supplied medications used in hospitals nationwide. Hospitals scrambled for months. A challenge to healing, delivered by weather.
Healers causing harm. This period also carried stories of practitioners who were ineffective, negligent, or worse. The one that stays with me: a woman in the Atlanta area gave birth, the baby got stuck, and the doctor decapitated the child during delivery, then handed the baby back so she wouldn’t know. That is Neptune-Chiron at its absolute darkest, deception layered onto medical harm. My standing advice during a transit like this: if surgery can wait, let it wait, and double-check what the doctor tells you. Black women already know to do that in the medical system. This was a time to do it twice.
Personal details obscured. The Carlee Russell story, an entire national news cycle built on the misrepresentation of one woman’s personal details. And the Lil Tay death announcement that turned out to be false. Duplicitous information kept floating to the surface, right on schedule. (There were also fraud counts piling up against the former president, but let’s be real, that’s an ongoing weather pattern of its own.)
Water plus lies, combined. A fake news story went around about a TikTok “boat jumping challenge” where people were supposedly dying jumping from fast-moving boats. Never happened. My friend’s mom sent it to him with a “boy, don’t you be doing this.” Moms are funny that way. But look at the ingredients: water, communication, and a lie. And then the story of the young woman who died of water intoxication, where water itself was the illness. It does not get more Neptune-Chiron than that.
What to take from it
When Neptune and Chiron are in tight contact, watch the water, watch the doctors, and fact-check the viral story before you forward it. And check on your friends who are healers, because they’re susceptible to their own illness and burnout under this energy too.
